As senior vice president of business development for NRT LLC, Thomas M. Stevens is responsible for developing and enhancing the companys relationship with the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), the largest trade association in the nation, and other key organizations within the real estate industry. Stevens, who is recognized as one of the premier leaders in real estate, has held a variety of industry posts throughout his 32-year career. Most recently, he was elected president of NAR for the 2006 term.
Prior to his appointment to senior vice president of business development, Stevens served as senior vice president for the Mid-Atlantic and president and chief operating officer of NRTs operations in Washington, D.C. and Virginia, overseeing the 90+ offices and more than 4,000 sales associates of the organization, serving real estate consumers in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Delaware.
Stevens began his career as a sales associate in 1972, proving himself quickly as he advanced through roles as principal broker, senior vice president and division manager by 1979. Working for Shannon & Luchs for 17 years, Stevens successfully spearheaded the growth of the company in Northern Virginia, expanding the number of office locations from three to 27. Stevens' purchase of 11 Coldwell Banker offices in 1993 resulted in the creation of Coldwell Banker Stevens, Realtors. After only seven years with Stevens as the company's president and leader, Coldwell Banker Stevens achieved the position as the number one Coldwell Banker company in the Northeast Region - a distinction it continues to hold today.
Coldwell Banker Stevens' success over the past nine years resulted in its extension of capabilities from Northern Virginia through the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan market, and further into Maryland and Virginia with the acquisition of several real estate companies dedicated to local service. Stevens' strategic focus includes personal attention to the Coldwell Banker Stevens sales associates who serve "today's consumer." He has been ever mindful of the company's mission to provide quality service and state-of-the-art technology, creating new programs and continuing system improvements that will ultimately provide the real estate professional and their consumers with the utmost in quality tools and unparalleled service.
Dedication to hard work and a strong vision for the future lend to Stevens' success in the real estate industry. On the national level he has served NAR as a director for many years, sitting on its leadership team in 2000 as vice president and liaison to government affairs, and in 2001 as Region III vice president. He continues this year as a member of the Executive Committee and presidential appointee to select groups. He has served as President to both his local and state associations, the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (1985) and the Virginia Association of Realtors (1989), and has been named Realtor of the Year by both of these associations. An active member of his community, Stevens has participated in many local organizations, serving in leadership roles for associations such as the American Heart Association, Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance and the Capital Campaign Committee of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Stevens and his wife, Lindy, who also built a career in the real estate and homebuilding industry, were both born in Washington, D.C. They live in Vienna, Virginia.
