Parsippany, N.J. - Feb. 17, 2010
Carmen Mercado, education and diversity manager for NRT LLC, the nation's largest residential real estate brokerage, has been elected national vice chairman and 2011 president elect of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP). She was also recently appointed to the National Association of REALTORS Equal Opportunity Cultural Diversity Committee.
NAHREP seeks to increase the rate of sustainable Hispanic homeownership by empowering real estate professionals nationwide. It is a purpose-driven organization that is propelled by a passionate combination of entrepreneurial spirit, cultural heritage and the advocacy of its members. NAR's Equal Opportunity Cultural Diversity Committee seeks to promote diversity within the industry as well as expand minority membership and leadership within the organization.
A real estate professional for eight years, Mercado assumed leadership roles early in her career: she is the past president and co-founder of the NAHREP's New York Chapter, which was established in 2004. She was sworn in as a national board member of the organization in 2006.
"Carmen's thoughtful and passionate leadership, which has served her company and clients well throughout her career, will be an invaluable asset to both NAHREP and NAR as the organizations seek to enhance and expand their roles within both the industry and the nation," said Bruce Zipf, president and CEO of NRT LLC. "NRT's commitment to diversity reflects the belief that understanding the unique needs of niche markets is not only beneficial for the communities the company serves, it is also vital to the success of the real estate industry as a whole. Mercado's success as a real estate professional and industry leader is a testament to these ideals"
As vice chairman and president elect of NAHREP, Mercado has already identified key objectives of her administration that include recruiting new members; retaining the knowledge, commitment and passion of its current members; and ensuring the organization continues to grow.
Mercado began her real estate career as a sales associate. After earning her broker's license, she served as both a housing counselor and branch manager prior to joining NRT's Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage operations in Long Island and Queens, N.Y.
Mercado will be installed as vice chairman and 2011 president elect at the NAHREP's Multicultural Real Estate Policy Conference on March 4th -5th at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC.
